A scarce wooden mitre plane that measures 305mm long x 75mm wide.

Note: this plane has some problems, please see condition report.

The front nose is marked with an upside down 'Stokoe' mark at the top.

It also has what looks like an earlier makers mark which has been overstamped with the name 'G.Cooke'.

This plane has a cutter which is marked 'Maw & Staley, Warranted Cast Steel'.

Stokoe planes and Maw Staley plane irons were made at about the same time in the 1820's - 1830's.

The plane has what appears to be an unusual adjuster to adjust the throat opening, it is adjusted by hitting it, needs a fasioned punch to hit it on the upwards direction; it is very stiff currently.

These types of plane are scarce, I believe this is the first we have ever had.

Condition: this plane has problems including the rear side of mouth has splits and chips and the cutter face has a lot of pitting (the first 1cm is pretty clear), the unusual throat adjuster is very stiff, please see photos for condition.
